Each year Greensward enters the English Schools Cross Country Championships which commences during the first week of October with the first round. South East England is one of the most competitive areas for Cross Country with countless schools in the area having national success in the past. Our first round meet at Gloucester Park, Basildon, pitted us against two traditionally strong schools in Southend High School for Boys/Girls and Fitzwimarc.

All the students who participated from Years 7-10, ran their hearts out and gave everything on a tough, hilly course.  The highlight performance came from the Junior Boys team who came 2nd overall beating Fitzwimarc School by 6 points and in doing so qualifying for the Regional Finals in November.   Elliott Capel led the team coming home in 3rd position, with Craig Wheeler (7th) and Kai Stubbington (8th) playing a strong supporting role.  However the most important position in a team cross country race is the member of the team that is 4th home; this fell to Tom Radziusz (24th) resulting in a team score of 42 points.

Well done to all the students who took part.
