YEAR 8 AND SENIORS DISTRICT NETBALL CHAMPIONS

On Tuesday 17 March, the Year 8 netball team (Lauren Smart, Becky Thompson, Elizabeth Cross, Louise Heywood, Hollie Cox, Summer Thorpe, Becky Ambridge, Sophia Spencer, Jade Eastabrook, Amy Peacham and Georgie Copeman) took part in the Castle Point and Rochford District Netball Rally. We won all of the games in our pool, with the scores at 13-1 against King Edmund, 12-0 against Cornelius and 11-3 against Sweyne. This took us through to the semi-final as winners where we played King John and won 9-4. In the final we played Sweyne for the second time and won 12-0.  Overall, we scored 57 goals and conceded 8. This means we are now District Champions for the second year running.

The Senior Girls (Amber Evans, Georgia-Blue Logan, Zoe Willis, Emily Gaskin, Isabella Knight, Rhian Simpson, Jasmin Bryant and Jasmine Eastabrook) also participated in this rally. The girls won all of their pool matches beating King John 7-3, Appleton 7-4, Cornelius 19-0 and Castleview 17-1. This put them in the semi final against Deanes which the girls won convincingly.  In the final they had to play King John again.  The girls were superb, playing some outstanding netball to beat King John 12-3. The girls are now District Champions, retaining the title they have won since Year 7.

ESSEX CUP AND NATIONAL NETBALL

On Saturday 14 March the Senior Girls netball squad took part in the National Netball Finals in Ellesmere Port. The girls had a tough day competing in 8 matches in their pool. They had a slow start against Bradford Grammar School, but in the second half, played some superb netball to narrowly miss a win by two goals 6-8.  The girls played Tonbridge Grammar and Higham Lane, with some great netball.  They secured their first win against Wirral Grammar winning 12-3 with some outstanding shooting and attacking play and some solid defending.  They then went on to beat Loughborough High School 13-1 and Yarm School 12-6.  The team then played tough matches against Beaconsfield High and Penryn School. The girls were outstanding ambassadors for the academy and it is a great achievement to qualify for two National Netball finals as a team in 3 years. Netball is a sport played across the country in every school so it was a brilliant effort to make a top 10 place in the country for the sport out of the 18 teams that were represented.

Following the weekend, the team played Baddow in the Essex Cup Netball semi-final.  This was a tough match that was incredibly close, that required some solid defending from Zoe Willis, Rhian Simpson, Abby Cronin, Jasmin Bryant and Jasmine Eastabrook. The girls secured some excellent turnovers to give Georgia-Blue Logan and Summer Osborne every opportunity to feed the shooters.  Both Amber Evans and Emily Gaskin scored some brilliant goals to give the team a win over Baddow 21-18. On Thursday 19 March they faced Wanstead in the final and won 25-24 to make them the U16 Essex Cup Champions.
