On Saturday 5 October, the U14 and U16 girls’ netball teams competed in the pre-county netball rally at Westcliff High School for Girls. It was a very successful weekend for the girls with great results!
The U14 girls played brilliantly winning 6 out of 7 games. The first game was against Southend High where the team were victorious winning 5-2 and giving them a confident start. Next up was Deanes and this highlighted their teamwork and determination as they swooped an easy second victory beating the team 7-1. Fitzwimarc followed but ended in a disappointing loss with the opposition winning 8-0, but this didn’t dampen the team’s spirits as they went on to win a tough close match against Westcliff High 5-4. King John came out strongly and gave our girls a good match but Greensward girls came out on top winning 3-2. The girls then followed their line of victories with a fantastic game against St Bernard’s beating them 10 goals to 2. They then finished their successful morning off by easily winning against Eastwood 12-5 meaning they confidently pass through to the next round which is the county rally in November. Well played to all the girls:-
Rhian Simpson, Carmen Fribbens, Ria Toovey, Lauren Allen, Jasmine Eastabrook, Lucia Knight, Phoebe Chatfield, Darcey Daniels, Jessica Nicholls and Rose Stapleton.
The U16s team consisted of Year 10 and 11 girls; we had a total of 5 games for the morning. Our first game was against King John, who we thought would be a tough game. However, the girls played really well as a team and won 9-4. A great start for the day.
Next was against another strong and tall team- Fitzwimarc, for the first half it was close competition with each team scoring a few goals each, but Greensward pulled it away towards the end and won 7-4. We were all in very high spirits, growing as a team as the day went on. The next game was against Deanes, and again the girls went out strong and determined with some great netball on display, and won 12-2.
We were now half way through the tournament with our final games against Westcliff High and Southend High. With Westcliff holding the event we strived with more determination knowing they had the advantage of the home ground. However, this did not faze us, with great defence, and beautiful attacking play leading us to a great 11-1 win.Our final game was approaching against Southend High and we did not want to break to defeat – we didn’t – we won by 10-5. We finished as winners of the rally as well as being unbeaten which takes us through to the next round into the County rally in November, when we hope to see more success. Well done to all the team:-
