... the Greensward Academy Swimming Team who are winners of the District Swimming Championship!

On 29 January, 42 swimmers from Years 7 to 11 donned their swimsuits and goggles to take part in the District Swimming Championships at Clements Hall.  The Tuesday and Thursday 7.15am training sessions paid off for the team as the boys swam their way to 1st place overall and the girls to 3rd place overall.  With their combined points, the Greensward team beat second place King John by just 1 point!

The students had to swim front crawl, backstroke, breast stroke, butterfly and relay.  However it was in the relay where the training really paid off as it soon became clear that this was team's main strength, allowing them to gain double points for their relay wins.  Well done to all the students who took part for their outstanding commitment to their swimming (which for some is the only sport in which they compete at the academy). They are to be congratulated on their strength and depth of character and excellent teamwork, enabling them to show everyone their "Greensward Edge"!

Thanks also must go to Mr Turner and Mrs Clarke-Irons for giving up their time to coach and mentor the team and to the parents who turned up and supported the students to their victory.  It was a really wonderful day.
