It was 4.30am on Wednesday 3rd June and Greensward Academy was full of many excitable Spanish students, all ready to put their language skills in to good use for a few days in sunny Barcelona!
After a busy morning of travelling, we arrived at our hostel in the city centre, just off Las Ramblas. We quickly unpacked our luggage and we could not wait to discover the bustling city. We had some lunch, tapas, of course and then headed to the harbour to relax for an hour or two. It was a great way to spend our first day in Barcelona and we could not wait to discover more of the city.
Day two began with a trip to the beautiful Park Güell. Here, we saw spectacular views of the city and learnt about the famous architect, Gaudi. This was followed by a visit to Gaudi's famous Sagrada Famiglia and Barcelona FC's football stadium, Camp Nou; a particular highlight for many of the boys, who were, by this point, already sporting Barcelona football shirts! In the evening, we headed to Hard Rock Café for some dinner, after which we were ready for an early night in preparation for our final full day in Barcelona.
On day three the first stop was La Boqueria, Barcelona's biggest and busiest food market. We all tried many Spanish specialities, including Turron and lots of different Spanish meats. Here, we bought a delicious and authentic picnic to eat on the Playa de la Barceloneta, or Barcelona beach. The day ended with a boat tour of the harbour, which everyone thoroughly enjoyed and again, the sun had not stopped shining all day!
By this time, all that was left now, was to pack and to head home after what had been a fantastic trip to Barcelona! We all (teachers included!) had an amazing time and our students really did us all proud! Thanks for a great few days in Barcelona, Year 8!
